The Australian Privacy Commissioner, Karen Curtis, has released a draft Voluntary Information Security Breach Notification Guide (guide) for public consultation.  When finalised, the purpose of the guide will be to provide public sector agencies and private sector organisations with general guidance on how to respond effectively to an information security breach.

Industry body proposes government-backed mortgage bonds
The Australian Securitisation Forum (ASF) released a discussion paper on 9 April 2008 proposing that the Federal Government consider establishing what would essentially be a government guaranteed, mortgage-backed securities market.

Senior Freehills Employee Relations Partner Appointed to National Occupational Health & Safety Review Panel
Deputy Prime Minister, The Hon Julia Gillard MP, today announced that Barry Sherriff, a senior partner in Freehills’ Employee Relations practice, has been appointed as one of three high profile members of the newly formed National Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Review Panel. The Panel’s remit is to assist in developing model OHS legislation for Australia.

Freehills' Board Announces New Chairman
Freehills’ Board announced today that Robert Nicholson, a senior partner in the firm’s Corporate group, has assumed the position of Chairman. Mr Nicholson replaces the previous Chairman, Geoff McClellan, who steps down from the role following a very successful six year tenure. Mr McClellan will remain as a Board member of the firm and both partners will continue with their fulltime practices.
