John Vaughan is a partner in Freehills’ Perth office and practises as a commercial litigator with particular experience in property-related disputes, insolvency and disputes involving trusts.
Experience
John's work frequently leads him to deal with complex commercial questions, such as complicated insolvency administrations with a number of opposing interests to satisfy.
He commonly advises and acts for liquidators and other controllers of insolvent administrations.
John has acted, in contentious circumstances, in sales of large real estate such as hotels and office tower blocks; he has enforced, by injunction and otherwise, easements and commercial lease covenants, and he has represented landlords in retail shop litigation.
John also has town planning and compulsory acquisition experience.
Professional background
John qualified as a solicitor in England, and practised as a litigation solicitor in London until 1981 when he moved to Perth. He joined Freehills the same year and became a partner in 1985.
John was admitted to practice in England in 1977. He was admitted as a barrister and solicitor in the Supreme Court of Western Australia in 1981; in the High and Federal Courts of Australia in 1985, as a solicitor in the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 1985, and in the Supreme Court of Queensland in 1993.
