For the third consecutive year we are delighted to announce that, according to the Thomson Financial M&A league tables, Freehills has again surpassed its local and international competitors in all categories and on all measures in both the Australia / New Zealand and the Asia-Pacific (excluding Japan) legal adviser tables. No law firm has previously achieved this feat since the inception of the league tables in 1997.

Freehills acted on more announced and completed deals than any of its competitors and the firm acted on the highest value of transactions locally and throughout the region.

We believe that these results reflect market recognition of the depth of talent in our M&A team and our success in delivering outcomes in a sophisticated marketplace.

Completed M&A deals (Australia and New Zealand)

Freehills acted on many of the most significant and complex deals during 2006, including Rinker in its response to Cemex’s bid, the Suncorp-Promina merger and Peabody Energy’s $2 billion contest for control of Excel Coal.

Freehills was also the legal adviser of choice for many participants in the private equity space. Important deals included Seven Network’s joint venture with KKR, Newbridge Capital’s acquisition of stores from Myer and the Flight Centre and Rebel Sport privatisations.

We thank all of our clients for their valued and ongoing support.
