Lucy is a partner in the Banking & Finance group of the Melbourne office of Freehills.
Experience
Lucy’s expertise lies in project finance, acquisition finance and large-scale corporate finance. Her practice involves acting for a range of financial institutions including leading domestic and investment banks as well as borrowers and sponsors in relation to a broad range of finance transactions.
Lucy has experience across numerous jurisdictions including Australia, Eastern and Western Europe, Russia and the CIS, the Americas, Asia and the Middle East. She has practised law in Melbourne, Moscow and London.
Lucy also currently sits on the board of the Freehills Foundation, the governing body of the firm’s pro bono and community program.
Infrastructure and property development
Lucy has advised:
- Hastings Funds Management in relation to its financing requirements for The Infrastructure Fund, including the financing of the acquisition of Thames Water Ballarat and a bid to acquire United Kingdom regulated assets
- the bank consortium on the debt financing of Macquarie Bank’s acquisition of Hobart International Airport
- Westpac on its bridge financing and senior debt refinancing of an Australian airport facility
- ANZ and Societe Generale in relation to the project financing of the Royal Agricultural Showgrounds redevelopment
- Macquarie Bank on the debt financing of its bid for the Melbourne Convention Centre Development
- BOSI International (Australia) Limited in relation to its acquisition and construction financing of various residential and commercial development projects in Victoria and New South Wales including projects in Eastwood, Epping and Erskineville
- ANZ Capital in relation to the debt funding of various leveraged acquisitions, including ANZ Terminals group, the Dun & Bradstreet Australasia Group and the Placard Group, and
- the lenders, including IFC and COFACE, in relation to the US$195 million project financing of a port in the Dominican Republic.
Energy & resources
Lucy has advised:
- BHP Billiton in relation to the project financing of the Newcastle coal export terminal facility
- Santos on the project financing aspects of various LNG projects in Australia and internationally
- an Australian infrastructure fund on the debt financing of its acquisition of energy assets in New South Wales and Queensland
- Alinta Limited in relation to the debt financing of its bid to acquire United Kingdom water assets and its bid to acquire Australian power assets
- Citibank on its debt financing of the acquisition of an electricity transmission asset
- National Australia Bank as arranger in relation to the A$280 million financing of Energy Development Ltd’s Australian energy assets
- the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in relation to various project financings including, the Severtek oil and gas project in Russia, the Kyiv Radisson hotel in Ukraine, the Gastransit Balkan transit pipelines, and secured loans to Lukoil, Rosneft-SMNG and Agrokor
- the International Finance Corporation in relation to various project financings including, the financing of an oil field development in the north of Russia, and a mineral resources deposit in Far-East Russia, and
- the lead arrangers and export credit agencies COFACE and SACE in relation to the US$969 million financing of a gas-fired fertiliser plant in Oman, a joint venture project between the Omani and Indian governments. This project was awarded Middle East Petrochemical Deal of the Year for 2002 by Project Finance magazine.
Corporate finance
Lucy has advised:
- the lead arrangers in relation to the $1 billion Tatts Group Limited syndicated facility
- Exxaro Australia Sands in relation to its various financing requirements, including United States private placements and Australian loan and receivable facilities
- Alinta Limited in relation to its corporate financing requirements, including, its merger with AGL
- ABC Learning Centres in relation to its corporate financing requirements
- National Foods in relation to its corporate financing requirements, and
- Zinifex in relation to the refinancing of its $300 million syndicated facilities.
Professional background
Lucy has completed a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Melbourne. Lucy was admitted to practice as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria in 1997, the High Court of Australia in 1997, and the Supreme Court of England and Wales in 2001.
