Freehills appoints three new partners despite economic climate

Freehills has announced the appointment of three talented new partners today1. The new partners cover three different practice areas across the firm, from two different states, and comprise one woman and two men.

The appointments signal the firm’s strong position and the sustained demand from clients for outstanding legal services independent of the challenging economic backdrop.

In making the announcement, Freehills’ Chief Executive Officer, Gavin Bell, said that the decision to appoint the new partners despite the economic uncertainty is a direct reflection of the firm’s continued optimism and commitment to its clients.

‘The new partners bring an exceptional skill set which is highly relevant in such times of market volatility and positions the firm to continue to deliver innovative and value-added services to our clients,’ Mr Bell said.

‘In this current climate of economic uncertainty it is crucial that we have the very best people working closely with our clients to address their business needs, keeping them abreast of legal and regulatory changes and providing them with commercially astute advice.’

‘Since July this year we’ve appointed a total of 11 new partners and I think this is testament to the good position we are in and our ongoing commitment to providing the highest level of service to our clients,’ he said.

Mr Bell said a key consideration in appointing the three new partners was their solid business acumen, unique skill sets and individual expertise.

‘The new partners come from backgrounds spanning employee relations, restructuring and insolvency and energy and resources, making them highly significant to the current economic landscape and extremely relevant to our clients and their current business requirements’, he said.

‘Their diversity will help strengthen the firm and pave the way for future growth’, continued Mr Bell.

Mr Bell was realistic while remaining optimistic about the firm’s growth, and he was confident that the new partners would bring the relevant backgrounds and expertise to continue to deliver the high level of service Freehills clients expect.

‘We believe we are in a very good position to successfully navigate the challenges presented by global economic conditions. We are currently experiencing a strong demand from existing and new clients,’ Mr Bell said.

Mr Bell concluded by saying the firm is committed to attracting and retaining the very best people, and in doing so, providing them with challenging and rewarding career opportunities.

‘I am incredibly pleased to welcome these talented individuals to the partnership and look forward to seeing them flourish in their new roles,’ he said.

The new partner appointments will become effective from 1 January 2009. The new partners will transition into their new roles over the next few weeks and participate in the firm's partner induction program.
