Daniel Blue is a partner in the Corporate group at Freehills. Daniel has broad corporate and commercial experience and has advised Australian and multinational corporations, on a range of issues, including negotiated acquisitions, due diligence, joint ventures, restructuring, schemes of arrangement, takeovers, equity capital raising, ASX Listing Rules and Foreign Investment Review Board Applications.
Experience
Daniel has acted for clients involved in a range of projects including:
- Standard Chartered Bank’s acquisition of ANZ Grindlays
- Australian City Properties restructuring of its debt portfolio and subsequent sale of the debt to an overseas purchaser
- Grand Hotel Group merger with Australian Tourism Group by scheme of arrangement
- TransÉnergie’s Murraylink Project linking the electricity networks of Victoria and South Australia
- Connex’s acquisition of a Victorian train business
- Ticor’s acquisition of the IHM Project in South Africa and advice on projects in India and Madagascar
- advising on the proposed merger of the refinery operations of Shell and Mobil in Australia
- advising Santos on its acquisition of assets from Novus Petroleum
- AWB’s (the former Australian Wheat Board) capital raising and listing
- Vincor International’s acquisition of Goundrey Wines and Amberley Estate Wines
- Agrium’s proposed development of an ammonia/urea plant in Western Australia
- advising Ticor on the proposed minority buy-out by Kumba Resources by scheme of arrangement
- advising OceanaGold on its several convertible bond issues and its merger by scheme of arrangement with Climax Mining
- advising BMO Capital markets on several capital raisings for Australian clients
- advising Bureau Veritas on its acquisition on Amdel Holdings.
- advising on several transactions with Chinese investors including Oz Minerals, Hunan Nonferrous Metals Holding Group and Emergent Resources.
Professional background
Daniel has a Bachelor of Economics Degree, a Bachelor of Jurisprudence, a Bachelor of Laws and a Master of Business from the University of Western Australia. Daniel is admitted to practice in Victoria, Western Australia, New South Wales, the High Courts of Australia and of England and Wales.
In addition to practising in Victoria, Daniel has practised in Western Australia and London.
