Cameron specialises in commercial dispute resolution, with a particular focus on taxation litigation and corporate and securities market regulation.
He has represented clients in proceedings in the High Court of Australia, Federal Court of Australia, State Supreme Courts and ICC International Court of Arbitration, as well as in negotiations, mediations and expert determinations. He also acts for clients in connection with investigations and audits conducted by the Australian Taxation Office, Australian Securities and Investments Commission and Australian Prudential Regulation Authority.

Cameron advises companies across a range of industries including financial services, funds management, mining, energy and resources and construction. He has also acted for a number of company directors.
Major projects include acting for:
- Commonwealth Bank of Australia in Federal Court proceedings concerning the franking of distributions on PERLS V
- Citigroup in Federal Court proceedings concerning the application of Part IVA to disallow franking credits and the applicability of GIC where franking credits are disallowed
- a number of listed companies in relation to risk reviews, audits and disputes with the ATO in relation to a range of issues including general and specific deductibility provisions, consolidated groups, attribution of CFC income, the research and development tax concession and Part IVA
- Citigroup in its successful defence of proceedings commenced by ASIC in the Federal Court alleging failure to manage conflicts of interest and insider trading
- a number of listed companies and company directors in relation to investigations by ASIC and APRA
- Commonwealth Managed Investments Limited in Supreme Court proceedings concerning redemption of units in a managed investment scheme
- the Department of Defence in resolving a dispute with a contractor concerning delay in construction of a significant infrastructure project
- an Australian client in a successful ICA arbitration against a French contractor in relation to the design of a significant infrastructure project
- Lend Lease Real Estate Investments in its successful defence of proceedings commenced by Westfield concerning a jointly owned asset
- Caltex in Federal Court proceedings by franchisees in relation to its joint venture with Woolworths
- Commonwealth Managed Investments Limited (Colonial First State Property Fund) in contested applications before the Takeovers Panel, and
- a number of clients including CSR, BUPA, Promina, Metcash, Macquarie Communications Group, DCA, Archer Capital, Gloucester Coal, Singapore Power and Viterra in relation to schemes of arrangement.
Professional background
Cameron joined Freehills’ Litigation team in 2002, bringing with him two and half years of experience in private practice and one and a half years of experience in the Federal Court of Australia, where he worked as Associate to Justice Lindgren.
Cameron graduated from the University of New South Wales with degrees in Jurisprudence and Law in 1998. In 2007 he was awarded a Master of Laws in Corporate and Commercial Law.
He has also been a casual lecturer in Public Law at the University of New South Wales.
