Freehills has appointed a new partner to the Environment & Planning team in Sydney, further enhancing its service offering in this important growth area.
Peter Briggs is one of Australia’s leading environment & planning lawyers and joins Freehills after a successful career advising on some of Australia's largest infrastructure and resource projects.
Mr Briggs’ expertise covers all aspects of environment and planning law, property transactions, environmental due diligence, compliance strategy and environmental prosecution and litigation. He has also advised senior management and boards of major corporate clients on the complex and high risk issues raised by environmental and planning law.
Chief Executive and Managing Partner, Gavin Bell said that the decision to hire laterally at this level displays the importance Freehills places on the rapidly evolving area of environmental law and the issues raised around greenhouse gas and climate change.
‘Peter’s depth of experience will further strengthen our environment and planning team in their practical, commercial and problem-solving approach to clients,’ he said.
Mr Briggs was most recently a partner at Clayton Utz.
Freehills is an Australian-based international law firm providing innovative, commercial legal advice to clients around the world, with around 1000 lawyers, including more than 200 partners across offices in Australia and South-East Asia.
This appointment is in addition to the four new partner appointments announced in the past month.
