Freehills has appointed partners Kathryn Everett and Jane Hodder as co-chairs of its Women at Freehills Steering Committee, both of whom will now play an important role in helping chart the firm’s future.
Women at Freehills is a strategic initiative aimed at reinforcing a high performance culture where women have fulfilling, successful careers, including partnership and leadership roles which balance their needs at various stages in their lives.
Both are successful senior partners at Freehills and are committed to ensuring women succeed and flourish in a variety of roles at the firm.
Freehills’ Chief executive, Gavin Bell said the appointment of co-chairs to the role provided the benefit of two experienced partners and highlighted Freehills’ flexible work arrangements.
‘These are important positions and it’s great to see two passionate leaders who complement one another so effectively,’ said Mr Bell.
‘The decision to elect co-chairs allows greater visible representation of the committee’s work in the two largest offices, Melbourne and Sydney, and greater capacity to travel to and consult with our other offices.’
Rebecca Davies held the Chair position until her recent retirement as a partner, and made a significant contribution, continuing on from the commitment and efforts of former partner Stephanie Pursley who was integral in establishing the Women at Freehills initiative.
Freehills has a long history of leading the legal industry in its support of women and their career development, and has a strong focus on encouraging diversity. Freehills was the first major Australian law firm to appoint a female partner in 1978, and continues to focus on creating a work environment that enables women to be successful, fulfilled and to take on leadership roles.
