Simon is a partner in Freehills’ Corporate group. Simon advises on general corporate matters including public company takeovers, private mergers and acquisitions, equity capital fundraising and corporate reconstructions.
Experience
Simon joined Freehills in 1997 and has worked in both the Melbourne and Perth offices. Before returning to Freehills’ Perth office, Simon spent two years with London law firm Freshfields, and was also seconded to the Australian Takeovers Panel.
Simon has been involved in a number of substantial transactions, including the:
- acquisition of Alinta by the Singapore Power / Babcock & Brown consortium
- Centro Property Group’s listing of the Centro Retail Trust
- Ticor’s scheme of arrangement relating to the minority buy-out by Kumba Resources
- acquisition by Orica of the Dyno Nobel group’s European, Asian and South American businesses
- Deutsche Bank’s acquisition of a majority interest in Crescent Gold, and
- sale by Orica of its 70 per cent interest in Incitec Pivot.
Professional background
Simon holds the degrees of Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Economics from the University of Western Australia. Simon also holds a Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance and Investment (majoring in corporate finance) from FINSIA.
