Freehills awarded at BRW ANZ Private Business Awards
Freehills has won awards for ‘Most Successful Private Business, Turnover >$100m pa’ and ‘Excellence in Community Practices’ at the inaugural BRW ANZ Private Business Awards. The new awards initiative seeks to reward and recognise private companies operating in Australia that excel in their chosen fields. Open to all Australian private businesses across a range of categories, finalists were judged by an independent panel of readers, industry and academic experts.

New head of Freehills' Perth office
John Atkins will retire from the Freehills partnership on 31 July 2008 to take up the position of Western Australian State Chairman for ANZ Bank. Mr Atkins will be succeeded by new Head of Office, Jason Ricketts, who is well placed to take over the mantle, already being a senior member of the Freehills Banking and Project team and member of the national board of Freehills.

In a move that will reverberate through the corporate tax industry in Australia, two of the country’s most highly awarded firms, Greenwoods & Freehills and Shaddick & Spence, will merge on 1 June 2008. The merger will create the largest specialist tax firm in Australia, with over 60 tax professionals.

Senior Freehills Employee Relations Partner Appointed to National Occupational Health & Safety Review Panel
Deputy Prime Minister, The Hon Julia Gillard MP, today announced that Barry Sherriff, a senior partner in Freehills’ Employee Relations practice, has been appointed as one of three high profile members of the newly formed National Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Review Panel. The Panel’s remit is to assist in developing model OHS legislation for Australia.

Freehills' Board Announces New Chairman
Freehills’ Board announced today that Robert Nicholson, a senior partner in the firm’s Corporate group, has assumed the position of Chairman. Mr Nicholson replaces the previous Chairman, Geoff McClellan, who steps down from the role following a very successful six year tenure. Mr McClellan will remain as a Board member of the firm and both partners will continue with their fulltime practices.
