Miles practises in employment and industrial relations law. His practice primarily involves provision of general employment advice, conduct of employment litigation and the employment aspects of commercial transactions. Miles also has a particular interest in occupational health and safety and sports aspects of employment law.Industry experience
Miles advises on the full range of employment and industrial matters, including:- assisting with the implementation of new employment arrangements including enterprise agreements, Australian Workplace Agreements and other forms of industrial regulation
- employment and industrial relations issues relating to transmission of business and mergers and acquisitions
- termination of employment including redundancies, unfair and unlawful contracts
- minimising the risk of, and responding to, industrial action
- drafting of and advising on employment policies and procedures
- drafting of and advising on executive and general employment contracts
- occupational health and safety including risk management and prosecutions
- equal opportunity law including discrimination and harassment issues
- employment litigation.
Miles acts for a range of clients including those in the information technology, banking and finance, construction, manufacturing, sports and professional services industries.
Professional background
Miles joined the firm in 1990 and the partnership in 1996. He holds a combined Bachelor of Arts and Laws degree from the University of Tasmania. Miles has presented regularly at conferences conducted by organisations such as the AGSM, Carter Roth, LexisNexis and also for Freehills clients.Miles is a member of the Australian Labour Law Association, the Australian and New Zealand Sports Law Association and the Australian Human Resources Institute.
