Current practice
Bill is a partner in the Banking and Finance group, based in Sydney.
He has extensive experience in a wide range of financing transactions with particular expertise in acquisition and leveraged finance, project finance and syndicated loans.
Industry experience
Bill regularly represents banks and debt arrangers as well as borrowers, financial sponsors and institutional debt investors. Such a diverse client base means that he is often already familiar with the commercial objectives and negotiating positions of the parties involved in a transaction. This understanding enables him to take a proactive and solution-oriented approach to getting the deal done on his client’s terms.
Bill handles many different types of credit facilities: bilateral, syndicated, secured and unsecured as well as equity bridge facilities. He deals with both investment grade and sub-investment grade borrowers.
Bill’s financing experience extends across a range of industries. For example, he has advised on project financings involving toll roads, airports, a coal terminal, petrochemical plants and power stations.
He has also advised on financings for leveraged acquisitions in a variety of businesses: broadcasting, oil and gas, forestry, rail, manufacturing, electricity, fast food and healthcare.
His practice involves representing clients in both domestic and cross-border transactions. For example, he has advised on financings for the acquisitions of a regulated water utility in England and a telephone directories business in continental Europe.
Mezzanine debt is used increasingly as part of the financing solution for many leveraged acquisitions or project financings. Bill regularly acts for a range of specialist mezzanine funds as well as senior lenders. He understands the different perspectives of the financiers and thus knows how to negotiate what are often complex intercreditor arrangements.
