Current practice

Tony is a partner in the Employee Relations practice and has had substantial practical experience in employee relations matters.

Industry experience

Tony has advised clients in most employment related matters, including industrial disputes and strategy, equal employment opportunity, termination of employment issues and enterprise bargaining.

He has appeared as an advocate in most courts and tribunals, including the state and federal industrial relations commissions, the Federal Court and anti-discrimination tribunals.

With his experience in employee relations matters, Tony is able to provide realistic and practical advice to clients. Tony had been seconded to Telstra Corporation Ltd as employee relations counsel where he assisted Telstra in meeting its legal and industrial objectives in preparation for privatisation. In that role, Tony was directly involved in Telstra’s numerous landmark proceedings in the Industrial Relations Commission, as well as a key adviser in Telstra’s outsourcing transactions and engagement of contractors and casual personnel. Tony is also a key adviser to clients in the banking, food, manufacturing and power industries. He is the partner responsible for the Employee Relation group’s client publications and is the lead partner for PACE Systems—a Freehills’ joint venture which has developed a performance and conduct system for clients.

Professional background

Prior to commencing with Freehills, Tony was employed as an industrial officer with the Metal Trades Industry Association (now AiG).

Tony is a member of the Industrial Relations Society of Victoria and the Australian Human Resources Institute.
