David is a founding member of the firm's funds management practice where he practises in:- funds management
- superannuation
- life insurance
- trust law
- securitisation
- credit law
- property finance.
David regularly advises in the following areas:
- compliance and due diligence reviews covering fund documentation and administration
- regulatory aspects of the development of financial products
- preparation, lodgment and review of APRA returns
- superannuation issues arising out of a sale or purchase of a business
- SGC and surcharge issues
- structuring or restructuring and taxation effects of superannuation arrangements, including fund mergers and disposal of funds
- dispute resolution, including advice relating to disputed death and disablement benefits.
Industry experience
David's move to the funds management practice in 1994 was a result of the growth of his practice in the burgeoning funds management sector, particularly work related to the (then) new superannuation legislation.
David acts for several key players in the financial services area, one of these being the Lend Lease Group. He also acts for several large corporate superannuation funds, such as the Lend Lease Superannuation Fund and the IBM Global Services Australia Superannuation Fund as well as for an industry fund.
Professional background
Seconded to the firm's Canberra office as resident partner from 1984 to 1988, David handled general commercial and property matters for national clients and also practised extensively in trade law and food law. David returned to the Sydney office in 1989 to join the banking and finance practice, where he dealt mainly with financing transactions, securitisation, credit law, property financing and stamp duty.A graduate of the University of New South Wales, David holds degrees in both law and commerce (accounting and financial management).
David has been a partner in our Sydney office since 1984.
