Debra Tulloch is a consultant patent attorney with Freehills Patent & Trade Mark Attorneys.

Industry experience

Her practice involves a broad range of patent work for both local and overseas clients, particularly in the technical areas of pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and molecular biology. Debra is experienced in the drafting, filing and prosecution of Australian and foreign patent applications and in patent oppositions. She is also a regular presenter at seminars and conferences and takes a particular interest in the application of the patent law to medical and biotechnological inventions.

Professional background

Debra received a Bachelor of Science degree with Honours in biochemistry from The University of Melbourne in 1985. Subsequently, she was employed in a medical research position. In 1987 Debra returned to Melbourne University as a tutor in the biochemistry department and in 1992 was awarded a Master of Science in molecular biology. She commenced in the patent attorney profession in 1991 and qualified as a patent attorney in 1993. In 1994 she was awarded the Institute of Patent Attorneys Prize for her outstanding results in the qualifying examinations.

Debra is a member of the Australian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, a member of the Australian Biotechnology Association, a Fellow of the Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys of Australia and a member of the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand.
