Current practice
Katie is training for qualifications as a patent attorney with Freehills Patent & Trade Mark Attorneys, and is aiming to complete a Master of Industrial Property degree at the University of Technology Sydney. Katie’s current practice includes assisting in the registration of Australian and international patent and design applications, as well as in conducting patent searches.
Industry experience
Katie specialises in materials, particularly biomaterials, and has detailed knowledge of material structure and function, biocompatibility, biostability, and the addition of biofunctionality, such as anti-bacterial activity or the controlled release of drugs, to materials.
Professional background
Katie received a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of New South Wales for her thesis entitled Polyurethane-organosilicate nanocomposites for novel use as biomaterials. She also received a Master of Biomedical Engineering from the same institution, and a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering with First Class Honours from the University of Newcastle.
