Current practice

Richard specialises in the tax aspects of domestic and international major transactions, including particularly mergers and acquisitions, capital raisings and IPO's. He also has deep experience in the tax aspects of International Financial Reporting Standards.

Richard has advised numerous major corporates on implementing International Financial Reporting Standards and is involved in both the NTLG and ICAA IFRS subcomittees. Richard was also heavily involved in the development of the tax consolidation legislation.

Recent transactions that Richard has been involved with include:

• the IPO of SP Ausnet
• the dual track trade sale / ITO process for Affinity Health Hospitals
• numerous acquisitions for Telstra Corporation, including the acquisition of the Trading Post Group
• the proposed merger between Smorgan Steel and One Steel
• the pre float restructuring and acquisition process for Boart Longyear
• various proposed investments for Newcrest Ltd

Professional background

Richard has a Bachelor of Commerce and Laws (Honours) degree from Monash University. 

He is a fellow of the Taxation Institute of Australia, a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and is admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria.
