Freehills wins Law Society of NSW award for flexible work practices
19 October 2006Freehills has received a ‘Special Award for Flexibility in the Workplace’ from the Law Society of New South Wales (NSW) for its initiatives in flexible work practices.
Freehills partner Stephanie Pursley, in her role as chair of the Women at Freehills Steering Committee, accepted the award on behalf of the firm at a function held on 18 October 2006.
According to the Law Society of NSW, the award is designed to recognise ‘… an individual or an organisation that has well developed flexible work practices policies and strategies in place and can demonstrate leadership commitment and positive outcomes.’
In presenting the award, the Law Society of NSW highlighted the commitment of Freehills’ partners to the implementation and measurement of flexible work practices and the development of tailored Practice Group plans to further improve work practices. Freehills’ willingness to openly share experiences within the legal industry to encourage change beyond its own organisation was also recognised.
Freehills’ chief executive officer, Gavin Bell, said such recognition is important as the firm is committed to flexible work practices and will continue its focus in this area.
‘The Women at Freehills Steering Committee and Stephanie’s team have worked hard to improve our policies in this area and to introduce a wide range of programs and tools to support our approach. This includes providing coaching for our partners to help develop their skills in managing flexibility and providing career advancement opportunities,’ he said.
‘We have received some very positive feedback from staff that confirms the success of such initiatives,’ Gavin added.
